Hi! I’m Lindsey the dyer behind Indigo Guinea Fiber!

I am also a wife for almost 15 years already, momma to 2 growing kids, and a hobby farmer on our families 40 acres.

Indigo Guinea, minus the “Fiber”, was originally started in 2018 by my Momma, Lori. She was a life long crafter of just about anything she could get her hands on! After already having done cotton dyeing for fabric and clothing, she wanted to try yarn dyeing for her own knits. It was going so well she decided to turn it into a business to share her fun makes, and to fund more fiber habits!

Indigo Guinea was doing great. South central Indiana was loving her fibers and dyes. And it showed a lot of continuing promise as a business. However, Mom already had a full-time business and this was getting to be too demanding. That’s where I came in…

A couple years prior my Mom had also made the bold move to find some potential farm property to move to in hopes of having sheep and alpaca someday. (Are you seeing all the fiber love here?!) But it was also with the agreement that once my husband was out of the Army we would move to the property and help to actually care for those future animals. In 2019 my husband and I with our 2 kids, 3 dogs, bunny and a whole bunch of chickens did just that. I was homeschooling and gardening all while living across the field from my parents, and it was so perfect. But in 2021 I made the move to enroll my kiddos in school, it turns out I wasn’t ready to be a homeschool mom. That was also the time my mom was ready to be done done with Indigo Guinea, it was just too much. Sooo before we sold the dye stuff off, I asked her to show me how to do it and I fell in love with my very first dye, later to become Wild Flowers that I still carry today. I hadn’t necessarily been a huge fiber enthusiast. I crocheted little things like wash rags and face scrubbies, things we needed. Or I made baby blankets. But dyeing was a whole new art form that was making me so happy. And Indigo Guinea still had more opportunities knocking at the door.

Just like that I became the new dyer and we rebrand adding in that “Fiber”. I opened an Etsy shop under the new name, did my first fiber show, then another. I saw another dyer was selling off their truck and decided mobile sounded like a wonderful direction to turn the business and grabbed it up! The truck did many more shows introducing me to so many shop owners, dyers, and fiber craft lovers. I knew this was what I wanted to do for lots of years to come so we built a studio on the property and in 2023 the truck was stuffed and I wanted to be able to do more so we upgraded to a longer trailer.

Now here I am. I get to dye fun colors on wonderful fibers and collaborate with other talented artists, to turn around and get to hang out with and sell to some of the most amazing humans. You. This is a dream life and I am so grateful for it. Thank you for sticking around to read this part of my story and helping me live this beautiful crazy life!
